Tandem paragliding team lucky after 200-foot fall
A tandem paragliding team fell about 200 feet and smashed into the windshield of a parked truck Saturday when their parachute collapsed in a fluke accident, Draper police said.
The man and woman, both in their mid-20s, had no cuts and, at first glance, no broken bones, but both complained of back and leg pain, Sgt. Michael Beesley said.
The mishap took place just after 6 p.m. at Point of the Mountain, a popular spot for air sports.
The parachute folded in half during a routine maneuver, witnesses told investigators.
"The suspension on that truck probably gave enough that it saved their lives. The ground out here is just frozen solid," Beesley said.
